Desde 77 Mundos estamos orgullosos de presentar a Anathaym X Aniversario, la miniatura conmemorativa de los diez años desde que este íconico personaje de Mythras llegó al mercado de los juegos de rol en España.
Cuando iniciamos nuestro periplo en el mundo de la edición nos dimos cuenta de que en mayo del presente año 2024 se cumplían diez años desde que se financiara la campaña de Runequest 6 a través del verkami de Runa Digital. Muchos d100 se han tirado desde entonces, así que pensamos que habría que hacer algo especial para conmemorar dicha fecha.
Hace más de veinte años que nos une nuestra amistad con las personas que forman parte del equipo de Red Bard Games, así que les trasladamos si sería posible el modelado y producción de una miniatura para nuestra heroína favorita. Inicialmente, nuestra intención era encargar un busto de Anathaym, pero después caímos en que, aparte de un adorno, siempre podría sacarse más partido al trabajo que se iba a realizar creando una miniatura que pudiese usarse como material de juego.
Pero la miniatura de Anathaym se nos quedaba un poco corta, de modo que pensamos que la mejor forma de conmemorar las portadas de Mythras y Runequest 6, sería modelar tanto a la guerrera de Meeros como a la monstruosa criatura lagartoide con la que se enfrentaba, el Slargr (anteriomente conocido como Slarge).
En noviembre del año pasado hicimos números y preparamos presupuestos en conjunto con Red Bard Games para una tirada inicial de 100 miniaturas y solo cuando vimos que las cifras cuadraban y la obra se podía hacer realidad nos pusimos en contacto con The Design Mechanism para ver si esta idea podría llevarse a cabo. Debíamos asegurarnos de tener su visto bueno y cerciorarnos de que no habría ningún conflicto de intereses en cuanto a los derechos de la ilustración de Pascal Quidault y esta obra derivada.
En diciembre enviamos un email y tanto Lawrence Whitaker como Pete Nash acogieron la propuesta con total entusiasmo, indicándonos que no habría ningún problema respecto a los derechos, tan solo pidiéndonos como requisito para la producción que les enviáramos dos copias de las miniaturas para su propia colección.
¿Nada más? ¡Eso está hecho!
Como sabéis durante el primer trimestre de este 2024 hemos producido tres novedades para Mythras (Armas de Fuego, Facciones y La Torre de la Punta Lunar), además de continuar trabajando en los productos que serán las novedades de nuestro próximo mecenazgo: ¡El primer Verkami Británico! Simultaneando unas y otras tareas, fuimos poco a poco recibiendo novedades sobre el estado del modelado de la miniatura.
En nuestra opinión el trabajo de esculpido de Red Bard Games es soberbio, y el acabado es realmente espectacular. Las resinas que utilizan son de alta calidad, algo que permite que se resalten los detalles y las piezas tengan una flexibilidad que hace que sean mucho más duraderas y no tengan tanta facilidad de quebrarse como ocurre con otras resinas más rígidas.
En cuanto al modelado, al principio las escamas del slargr eran demasiado sutiles y pedimos que se marcaran un poco más. Como sabéis, la ilustración no muestra la parte posterior de la criatura, de modo que el primer esculpido no incluía la cola de lagarto que ahora forma parte del resultado final (lo que nosotros denominamos «un culillo sabrosón» xD). También se añadieron algunos elementos de decorado en la composición, como son las columnas rotas sobre las que se apoya Anathaym y las otras partes decorativas que se incluyen en todo el conjunto, sobre una peana de seis centímetros donde ambas figuras se pueden montar para mostrar la escena de la portada de ambos juegos.
A medida que ibamos dando avances sobre el proyecto, Lawrence y Pete, nos trasladaban su apoyo y entusiasmo, facilitándonos la difusión de la noticia a través de sus foros y redes sociales (algo que amablemente han hecho), planteándonos la posibilidad del envío por todo el mundo para aquellas personas fuera de España que quisieran hacerse con la miniatura.
Hicimos de nuevo cálculos y vimos la posibilidad de los envíos internacionales como algo plausible, y es así como hemos llegado hasta hoy, en el que ya está disponible la adquisición de esta representación de la lucha eterna entre estas dos entidades míticas que llevan guerreando más de diez años y esperamos que muchos más de ahora en adelante.
Como sabéis los envíos de las miniaturas no se realizarán hasta el día 15 de julio, de modo que tenéis hasta entonces para pedir vuestra copia hasta fin de existencias. Asi que, ¿a qué esperas para hacerte con ella? ¿Responderas a la llamada del muro de escudos o harás que nuestra heroína perezca a manos de esa inmunda criatura lagartoide?
A look at the creation of the Anathaym 10th Anniversary miniature
From 77 Mundos we are really proud to present Anathaym X Anniversary, the commemorative miniature of the ten years since this iconic Mythras character arrived to the RPG market in Spain.
When we started our journey in the world of rpg book publishing we noticed that in May of this year 2024 it would be ten years since the Runequest 6 campaign was funded through Runa Digital’s verkami. Many d100s dice have been thrown away since then, so we thought we should do something special to celebrate that date.
We have been friends with the people at Red Bard Games for more than twenty years, so we asked them if it would be possible to model and produce a miniature for our favorite heroine. Initially, our intention was to commission a statue bust of Anathaym, but then we realized that, apart from an ornament, we could always get more out of the work to be done by creating a miniature that could be used as game material.
But the Anathaym miniature was a little short, so we thought that the best way to commemorate the covers of Mythras and Runequest 6, would be to model both the Meeros warrior and the monstrous lizard creature she faced, the Slargr (formerly known as Slarge).
Last year in November we did numbers and prepared budgets together with Red Bard Games for an initial run of 100 miniatures and only when we saw that the sums were right and the work could become a reality we contacted The Design Mechanism to see if this idea could be carried out. We had to make sure we had their approval and make sure there would be no conflict of interest regarding the rights to Pascal Quidault’s illustration and this derivative work.
In December we sent an email and both Lawrence Whitaker and Pete Nash welcomed the proposal with total enthusiasm, indicating that there would be no problem regarding the rights, only asking us as a requirement for the production to send them two copies of the miniatures for their own collection.
That’s all? Well, we have a deal!
As you know, during the first quarter of this 2024 we have produced three new products for Mythras (Firearms, Factions and Moonspike Tower), in addition to continue working on the products that will be the news of our next crowdfunding: The Britain Verkami! Simultaneously with these and other tasks, we were gradually receiving news on the status of the modeling of the miniature.
In our opinion the sculpting work of Red Bard Games is superb, and the finish is really spectacular. The resins they use are of high quality, something that allows the details to stand out and the pieces have a flexibility that makes them much more durable and not as easy to break as with other more rigid resins.
As for the modeling, at first the scales of the slargr were too subtle and we asked for them to be marked a little more. As you know, the illustration does not show the back of the creature, so the first sculpt did not include the lizard tail that is now part of the final result (what we call “a tasty little butt” xD). Some decorative elements were also added in the composition, such as the broken columns on which Anathaym stands and the other decorative bits that are included in the whole set, on a six centimeters base where both figures can be mounted to show the scene of the cover of both games.
As we were making progress on the project, Lawrence and Pete, told us their support and enthusiasm, facilitating the dissemination of the news through their forums and social networks (something they have kindly done), raising the possibility of shipping around the world for those people outside Spain who wanted to get the miniature.
We made calculations again and we saw the possibility of international shipments as something plausible, and that is how we have come to today, in which the acquisition of this representation of the eternal struggle between these two mythical entities that have been fighting for more than ten years and hopefully many more from now on is already available.
As you know, the miniatures will not be shipped until July 15th, so you have until then to order your copy while stocks last. So, what are you waiting for to get your hands on it? Will you answer the call of the shield wall or will you make our heroine perish at the hands of that filthy lizard creature?
